Valley-wide Wheelchair Basketball championship concluded

Nepal Army “A” wins title

Nepal Wheelchair Basketball Association organized one-day Valley-wide Wheelchair Basketball championship today (16th July 2011) at Trichandra College, Kathmandu, Nepal. This is the first official Wheelchair Basketball Championship organized in Nepal. Nepal Basketball Association (NeBA) president Lama Tendi Sherpa inaugurated the championship.

Three teams participated in the one-day event that was managed and coordinated by Dinesh Thapa, Secretary General of Nepal Basketball Association and Nepal Wheelchair Basketball Association.

The championship was played in round robin format with top two teams entering the final of the championship. Nepal Army “A” and Nepal Wheelchair Sports Association enter the finals of the championship.

In the final Nepal Army “A” beat Wheelchair sports association 14 – 8 (2 -4, 6 – 2, 4 – 0, 2 – 2) to win the championship. The winners Nepal Army “A” were presented with cash prize of Nrs. 5000 along with certificates while the runners up Wheelchair sports association were presented with cash prize of Nrs. 3000 with certificates. The 2nd runners up team is Nepal Army “B” were awarded with Nrs. 2000 with certificates. Digam Singh Chemjong was judged MVP of the championship and was awarded cash prize of Nrs. 100o with certificates.

National Sports Council member Dev Kumar Lama, NeBA President Lama Tendi Sherpa and NeBA Secretary General Dinesh Thapa gave away cash prizes and certificates.

Nepal Wheelchair Basketball Association is affiliated with International Wheelchair Basketball Federation and Nepal Basketball Association.
