1st SAARC Basketball Championship for men (2001)

First SAARC Basketball Championship for Men was the first International Basketball championship that Nepal had participated.  The Championship was held at NF Railway stadium, at Maligaon, in Guwahati, India. Hosts India drubbed Bangladesh 139-34 to win the first SAARC basketball championship for men while Nepal beat Maldives to secure third spot.

India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Maldives participated in the First SAARC Basketball Championship for Men which was held from 2 – 6 March 2001.

      India is more developed as of now. If Nepal wants to improve as a team or they want to play on a better level against bigger and better opponents. they need a big man meaning a Center that can rebound the ball on both ends of the court, who can also produce on the offensive end. A lot more is needed but Center plays a big role!!!
