Good effort to promote basketball on western Nepal: Mani Mukunda Cup Concluded, Hosts lift title

Mani Mukunda College of Butwol organized First Mani Mukunda Cup (MMC Cup) knock-out +2 level basketball tournament recently at Butwol, western part of Nepal. The tournament was held at the basketball court of host college Mani Mukunda College at Butwol – 13, Durganagar, Yogikuti.

Totol of 8 colleges of Butwol Municipality participated in the MMC Cup. The tournament was held in the knockout format.

Following 8 colleges participated in the +2 level basketball tournament, MMC Cup 2070.

  2. New Horizon College
  3. Tilottama College
  4. Golorious College
  5. Everest College
  6. St.Joshep College
  7. Kalika College
  8. Siddhartha college

The tournament was played in the knockout format.

First round game schedule and results

Game 1: MMC vs Tilottama College (MMC beats Tilottama 66-41) / Highest Scorers: MMC- Bishal Bhattrai – 20 pts / Sujan gurung- 18 pts; Tilottama- Prabin Thapa – 21 pts

Game 2: Golorious college vs Kalika college (golorious beats kalika 34- . 30 ) / Highest Scorer: Golorious- Kamal 14 pts

Game 3: St.Joseph college vs Everest HS (Everest beats St.Joseph on extra period 1{OT} 30-24) / Highest Scorer: Everest – Rohit Baral 20 pts

Game 4:  Horizon college vs Siddhartha College ( Horizon college beats Siddhartha college 41-33 ) / Highest Scorer: Horizon – Sudeep Pokhrel 19 pts

Semifinal games of MMC +2 knockout Cup were as below

MMC and New Horizon enter Final of the tournament. In the final, Manimuknda College (MMC) beats New Horizon College 75-44 to lift the title of the MMC +2 Knockout Basketball Cup. MVP of MMC Cup was given to MMC forward Bishal Bhattrai and MMC Cup high scorer was given to his fellow team mate MMC guard Sujan Pun who avg 23.33 PPG/ scored 70 pts in tournament.

The effort by the Mani Mukunda College in Butwol, western part of Nepal is a good sign for the development and promotion of Basketball in Butwol. Despite the many difficulties, Mani Mukunda College organized the cup with great pride and honor and they deserve the a “BIG thank you” from all the Nepalese basketball fans/lovers.
