10 teams are set to participate in the 1st St. Xaviers Bachelors Level Basketball Tournament which is going to start from SEP 1 to 15, 2013 at St. Xaviers College, Maitighar, Kathmandu, Nepal. The first of its kind tournament among the Bachelor Level students in Nepal, the organizers aims to provide the opportunity for the students to interact and build friendship among themselves through basketball.

Participating teams are divided in to two pools and the pool winners and runners up will proceed to the semifinals of the tournament. The venue of the tournament is the St. Xavier College, Maitighar, Kathmandu, Nepal.

The 2013 FIBA Americas Championship for men is all set to start in Caracas, Venezuela. 10 teams from the FIBA Americas sub zone will fight for the prestigious FIBA Americas championship title and most importantly they will fight for a top 4 spot to qualify for the 2014 SPAIN FIBA World Cup for next year. The championship will be held in Caracas, Venezuela, from August 30 to September 11, 2013.

As United States of America (USA) is already qualified for the 2014 SPAIN as the gold medalist of the 2012 LONDON Olympic Games, below are the 10 teams that are qualified to participate in the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship for Men and play for the top 4 spots to book their ticket to 2014 Spain.

Central American and Caribbean Sub-Zone (Qualified from 2012 Centrobasket):

  1. Dominican Republic
  2. Puerto Rico
  3. Jamaica
  4. Mexico

North American Sub-Zone:

  1. Canada

South American Sub-Zone (Qualified from South American Basketball Championship 2012)

Format of the 2013 FIBA Americas Championship for Men

The ten teams are split into two groups. The best four teams of each group advance to the second round, where the teams play against the four teams from the other group; each team carries over all points earned during the first round, except for those earned in the match against the team that was eliminated. The best four teams of this group advance to the semifinals and are qualified for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup. The United States, which won the Olympic Gold Medal in 2012, automatically qualifies for the 2014 FIBA Tournament and does not have to participate as a result.

The third edition of Bernhardt Cup Inter College Basketball Tournament has started here in Nepal. Total of 18 Boys and 8 Girls teams are participating the 4th edition of the Bernhardt Cup Inter College Basketball Tournament.

Binesh Neupane of Xavier International College was named Boys MVP while Upama Pokhrel of Saipal Academy was named the Girls MVP of the First Xavier International (U19) +2 Inter – College Basketball Tournament Championship here at Kathmandu, Nepal.

In the final match of the boys category of the championship, Hosts Xavier International College beat Trinity International College 75 – 61 to lift the title while Saipal Academy beat Golden Gate International College 50 – 41 to lift the girls title.
