Team Jakarta

Team Jakarta (Indonesia) won the Tokyo Masters 3×3 Basketball tour held at Tokyo, Japan to qualify for the FIBA 3×3 World tour final scheduled to be held at Istanbul, Turkey from 4 – 5 October 2013.

Team Jakarta will be joined by Team Nagoya (Japan). Team Jakarta and Team Nagoya played in the final in which Team Jakarta beat Team Nagoya 16 – 15. Team Jakarta beat Team Beirut (Lebanon) 14 – 12 and Team Kawasaki (Japan) in the quarterfinal and semifinal respectively en route to the final, while Team Nagoya beat Team Yokohama (Japan) 15 – 14 in another quarterfinal and Team Tokyo (Japan) in the semifinal to enter the final of the Tokyo Masters 3×3 basketball event.

A two day event, Tokyo Masters 3×3 basketball, was played in Tokyo right in front of the iconic Fuji TV building with full bleachers on both days and a great festive-like atmosphere, to which contribution was made by well-known comedian Yoshimoto and the most successful players in the history of Japanese basketball in Yuta Tabuse and Yuko Oga, who both played professionally in the US in the NBA and the WNBA respectively. Total of 12 teams participated in the Tokyo Masters.

India was represented by Team Chennai and was placed in pool A. Team Chennai lost to Team Nagoya 7 -11, lost to Team Vladivostok (Russia) 7 – 13 and won against Team Takao (Taiwan) 12 – 11. Team Chennai failed to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Tokyo Masters. Team Chennai was represented by Bopanna Buncy, Akilan Pari, Ramachandran Ramakrishnan, and Chandrabose Seenivasan.

USA-U19-champs

United States of America defeated Serbia 82 -68 to win the 2013 FIBA U-19 World Championship in the final played at Prague, Czech Republic.

It is the USA’s record fifth U19 FIBA World Championship title. USA were undefeated in the championship.

Montrezl Harrell scored 17 points for USA while four players scored in double digits. Nigel William-Goss scored 15 points, Rasheed Sulaimon had 12 and team captain Marcus Smart scored 11 points for the champions.

Meanwhile, defending champions Lithuania beat Australia 106-100 in overtime to take the bronze medal at the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship. Lithuania had won gold in 2011.

Aaron Gordon of the United States was awarded the Most Valuable Player award of the 2013 FIBA U-19 World Championship. Gordon along with Jahlil Okafor (USA), Serbia’s Vasilje Micic, Dante Exum of Australia and Croatia’s Dario Saric were named on the All-Tournament team.

Among the Asian teams China finished 7th, Iran finished 11th and Korea finished 13th in the Championship. A total of 16 teams qualified for the championship.

Nepal U16 Boys bags third place with 47 – 34 win over Maldives With the 16 Points from Aniish Magar and 9 points from skipper Keshang Thokya Thakuri in the ongoing South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) qualifiers for  for the 3rd FIBA ASIA U16 Championship for Men.

Four teams — Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives and India — is competing in the qualifying round to be held in round robin format to qualify one team from SABA for the 3rd FIBA ASIA U16 Championship for Men scheduled to be held at Tehran, Iran from 25 Sept to 4 Oct 2013.

In the final match of the day, India beat Bangladesh 103-59 to qualify from SABA to the 3rd FIBA ASIA U16 Championship for Men scheduled to be held at Tehran, Iran from 25 September to 4 October 2013.

Nepal lost to India in the 22 – 92 in the ongoing South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) qualifiers for  for the 3rd FIBA ASIA U16 Championship for Men.

Nepal U16 team lost to Bangladesh 45 – 63 in the ongoing South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) qualifiers for  for the 3rd FIBA ASIA U16 Championship for Men.

In other match of the day India beat Maldives 95 – 50.

Four teams — Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives and India — is competing in the qualifying round to be held in round robin format to qualify one team from SABA for the 3rd FIBA ASIA U16 Championship for Men scheduled to be held at Tehran, Iran from 25 Sept to 4 Oct 2013.

Nepal will India on 3 July 2013 and Maldives in the last game on 5 July 2013.

The qualifying round is being held at Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Nepal U16 National Basketball Team

Nepali U16 team is ready to roar at Dhaka in the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) qualifiers for the 3rd FIBA ASIA U16 Championship for Men which is all set to start today at Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Four teams – Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives and India – will compete in the qualifying round to be held in round robin format. The winner of this qualifying event will be qualified to participate in the 3rd FIBA ASIA U16 Championship for Men scheduled to be held at Tehran, Iran from 25 September to 4 October 2013.

Keshang Thokya Thakuri is the captain of the Nepal team while Saugat Singh Baniya is the vice-captain. Ajay Kunwar, Anish Magar, Sohrat Shah, Suraj Lama, Sujan Century, Denjo Gurung, Prayus Shrestha, Chhewang Jhankri, Sandesh Tamang and Sudip Acharya are the other members of the squad. Subrat Rajopadhaya is the Manager of the Nepali team while Biku Maharjan and Prem Sundar Hona are the coach and assistant coach. FIBA referee Raj Kumar Maharjan will referee matches during the qualifiers.
