Nepali Boys U-16 basketball team left for Dhaka, Bangladesh today to participate in the South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) U-16 Basketball Qualifiers to be held there from July 3-5, 2013 at Dhaka, Bang;adesh. The U-16 team comprises 12 players and four officials. Four teams — Nepal, Bangladesh, Maldives and India — will compete in the qualifying round to be held in round robin format to qualify one team from SABA for the 3rd FIBA ASIA U16 Championship for Men scheduled to be held at Tehran, Iran from 25 Sept to 4 Oct 2013.

Keshang Thokya Thakuri is the captain of the team while Saugat Singh Baniya is the vice-captain. Ajay Kunwar, Anish Magar, Sohrat Shah, Suraj Lama, Sujan Century, Denjo Gurung, Prayus Shrestha, Chhewang Jhankri, Sandesh Tamang and Sudip Acharya are the other members of the squad. Subrat Rajopadhaya is the Manager of the Nepali team while Biku Maharjan and Prem Sundar Hona are the coach and assistant coach. FIBA referee Raj Kumar Maharjan will referee matches during the qualifiers. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama and others officials of Nepal Basketball Association bade farewell to the team.

Prime Sports Club defeated Gurukul Club to lift the women’s title of the 1st National Club Basketball Championship here at Kathmandu, Nepal. Prime took the lead in first quarter 10 – 6. Prime also took the second quarter 15 – 7 but lost the third quarter 6 – 11. Prime took the last quarter 6 – 5 to win the title with the total score of 37 – 30.

40 points from Rishi Robertson of Whitehouse Club was not enough for his team to win the title of the 1st Nepal National Club Level Basketball Championship here at Kathmandu, Nepal. NASA Club Lifted the Men’s Title defeating Whitehouse Club 98 – 83 in the Men’s Final played at National Sports Council Covered Hall, Kathmandu, Nepal with the help of Joel Debortoli’s 32 pts. NASA received Nrs. 25,000 as cash prize along with winners trophy while Whitehouse received Nrs. 15,000 with runners up trophy. Joel Debortoli is adjusted the MVP of the Men’s category of the Championship.

The championship is organized by Nepal Basketball Association. This is the first edition of the championship and team is allowed to play 3 foreigners in their team. Top 6 Men’s and 6 Women’s team were invited to compete in the inaugural edition of the championship. National Sports Council member secretary Mr. Yuvraj Lama handed over the trophies for the winner and runners up team. The women’s final will be played on Friday.

The semifinal lineup of the both Men’s and Women’s category of the First National Club Level Basketball Championship has been completed. In the Men’s semifinals Whitehouse will face Goldengate while NASA will face Gurukul. In the Women’s category, WhiteHouse will face Prime in first semifinal while Gurukul will face Goldengate in another semifinal.

In the last league matches played at the covered hall of Dasharath Stadium, NASA edged past Golden Gate 89-77 to advance as Group B winner while White House crushed Xavier International College 64-37 to top Group A. Despite the loss, Golden Gate also made it to the semifinals as the group runner-up.

In the women´s category last league matches, Gurukul beat Saipal 41-28 to finish as Group A runner-up. White House is the group winner. In another women’s match, Golden Gate beat Prime 36-31 to top Group B while Prime advanced as the group runner-up.

Prime and Whitehouse win there respective matches in the First  National Club-level Basketball Tournament in the women´s section on Friday.

Prime defeated Morgan 36-17 on the latter´s home court at Basundhara, Kathmandu as Sneha Singh scored 13 points for the winning side. Prime took the first quarter 8-7 and extended the lead with a second quarter score of 7-6. Prime dominated the last two quarters with scores of 10-2 and 11-2 to register a comfortable victory.

Likewise, Whitehouse eased past Saipal 32-19. Sujata Rai, who scored nine points, was the highest scorer for Whitehouse. Whitehouse took the first two quarters 8-5, 12-2 but Saipal cut the lead in the third quarter as it scored 10 points against eight scored by Whitehouse. Whitehouse took the low-scoring last quarter 4-2 to seal an easy victory.

Meanwhile, Gurukul won its first match of the tournament in the men´s section on Friday. Gurukul defeated Xavier´s 84-51 in the match played at the National Sports Council covered hall. Kijato scored 23 points for Gurukul. Xavier´s took a 24-19 lead in the first quarter but Gurukul dominated the remaining three quarters with the scores of 16-11, 24-10 and 25-6 for an emphatic victory.

Morgan vs Saipal

NASA beat Morgan 96-74 in Men’s category while in women’s section Golden Gate overcame Morgan 39-31 in the opening day of the  First National Club Level Basketball Championship here at Kathmandu, Nepal. Earlier, NSC Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama inaugurated the tournament organised by Nepal Basketball Association. A total of 12 teams – six each in men’s and women’s sections – are participating in the league-cum-knockout tournament.

Nepal Basketball Association is organizing “First National Club Level Basketball Championship” from 20 – 27 June 2013 at NSC Covered Hall.
