Undefeated Gurukul lifted the title of Kirtipur Cup Basketball League by defeating National Basketball Champion GoldenGate Club 78-67 in the final.
Gurukul, led by national team captain Sadish Pradhan along with the stylist Robin Khatri AKA “Metro”, finished the league with a perfect record as it won all its matches en route to the title. In the final, Gurukul were too hot to handle for the National Basketball Champion GoldenGate Club.
Veteran Ajay Manandhar was the topscorer for Gurukul in the final with 23 points. Sadish Pradhan scored 19 points while Robin Khatri contributed 13 points for the champions. Bikram Dangol scored 18 points, including four three-pointers, and Sushil Gurung added 15 points for GoldenGate.
Winner Gurukul received Rs 40,000 along with the trophy while runner-up GoldenGate bagged Rs 20,000 with runners up trophy.
Binod Maharjan of Gurukul was declared the most valuable player and awarded with Rs 5,000 and Li-Ning basketball shoes while National team captain Sadish Pradhan was the highest scorer of the tournament and received Rs 5,000. Pradhan scored 262 points for Gurukul in the tournament. Ayush Singh of the host Naya Bazaar Club, Kirtipur finished as the second highest scorer with 210 points.
Altogether six teams had participated in the tournament played in double-league format initially and the top four teams had advanced into the semifinals.
