Prime Cup, one of the most prestigious and oldest college level basketball tournament in Nepal was concluded here at Kathmandu, Nepal with the National Campus & Premier College lifting the Boy’s and Girl’s title respectively. Prime College, an educational institute of Kathmandu has been organizing the Prime Cup Basketball Championship since 2002 AD and has reached it’s 9th edition in year 2011 AD. Nepal Basketball Association provides the technical help for the championship every year and it is the most awaited & famous college level basketball championship in Nepal.
Hosts Prime college was the defending champions in both the boys and girls’ section wining both titles last year but failed to repeat their double glory this time around. In the boys’ final, National Campus outplayed Prime College 56-42 riding high on Bikash Gurung’s 19 points, while Prime’s Ayush Singh returned with a match-high 20 points but in vain.
In the women’s final, Premier avenged their last year’s title loss against Prime in a three-point thriller to win 32-29. Prime’s Nayana Shakya top scored in the match with 12 points, while Sujata Rai posted nine points for the winners.
Prajun Pokharel of National Campus and Anushka Malla of Prime College were declared the Most Valuable Players of the tournament.
Total of 16 Colleges in Boy’s category and 12 colleges in the Girl’s category participated in the Prime Cup 2011.
